Help Portrait

Every year, worldwide, photographers ‘come together’ and do an event called “Help Portrait.” Every photographer does it their own way with what ever they want to take pictures of. Whether it’s taking pictures of humane society animals, people, businesses that want for business to stay there, whatever you can possibly do to help. And there are also some who take the road less traveled and just take in the ‘portrait’ part, not the ‘help’. Us in SkillsUSA do it every year and we take our ‘help portraits’ of needy and homeless people at Fresh Start downtown Coeur d’ Alene. Fresh Start is a warming center for homeless people to get donated food, clothes, and can have a shelter. They also have computers, mail and telephones, so they can get in touch with family or even look for jobs to get back on the right track. Some may even be just disabled or need special care. This year was my first year actually participating in Help Portrait, I’m very glad I did it. I was in charge pf taking all the portraits, and some of these peoples’ stories made me frown; they were sad. And It made me think about how MUCH I have and all that I am really thankful for. Here’s most of the pictures and some of the stories that they were telling me:

"I actually get a Christmas present this year. This is my hubby of 29 and I love him very much."

"I'm gonna mail this to my son. He's never seen his old man."

These three work at Fresh Start. They help out the community every day.

The man on the right is Deaf.
