Motion Blur.

Yes, taking pictures of my nephew sleeping in his swing was my last resort. When you’re home alone babysitting a sleeping 2-month-old, nothing really moves and it is dead silent. Especially when I don’t know any of my neighbors, and all my friends were busy, so I couldn’t think of anything. It kind of looks like his swing is going really fast, but trust me, it was going slower than snail. Okay, not THAT slow, but barely 2 mph, at the most.

Inspiration: Smashing Magazine – This website had quite a few pictures that I really liked. The pictures have great colors in them, and a lot show well-done motion blur, which is why I chose this website, even though this was not one of my better blog posts, I admit it though! The second picture of the water with the red lights, I love it. I also like the photo with the men swirling fire swords (or whatever they are).

A little bit angled. I like how the carpet is blurred too. But I don’t know why..

I kinda wish the couch was in focus.

Other angle! i like this one the most.

Self-Timer Jump Fail, everyone’s favorite!

I like how the ground and Becca’s feet are focused, I wish mine and Jenna’s feet were focused too, though.

Jenna, Becca, and Chase jumping! Chase just looks scary.

Chase and Becca moved, therefore it’s motion. And it’s blurred. But Jenna is somewhat in focus, I guess that makes it better.

  1. When shooting be sure to think about composition- watch your backgrounds, things on the side of the frame, etc.

I particular- the jumping photos. Look at the for sale sign in the background and the bright red tail light on the left side of the frame.

As far as capturing motion- you have captured motion. I would like to encourage you to use this in future assignments but push it further, think about composition, shoot from different angles, go above and beyond.

  3. I really liked your studio and portrait pictures. They all look very professional. I like the different angles you get on the pictures. I think you might have been able make them look better if in the one picture you didn’t see her gum and a little better objects for motion blur. On some of the baby pictures it looks like you have a little camera shake, so if you fix that then you will be point one. Good so and keep up the good work! (:

  4. First off let me say you hang out with chase, therefor you are cool. I really liked these photos because the blur was very professional. The only thing i think you could have done differently was maybe have them do something more interesting like go on a trampoline and do a flip or jump out of a tree. (Of course safely jump out of a tree.) I think the ones of the baby swinger thing are good, but what would make them better is if there was a baby actually in it. It would give it a different focus and not so much blend in with the setting. I like how blurry Chase is in the second to last one, everyone else is more mellow and just barely blurred while he pops out and remains the blurriest. Overall out of ten i give these photos a nine because there were a few things i thought you could have done differently but they were good for the most part. Great work! Keep it up!

I thought the blur pictures where very interesting especially the ones of the baby swing. It makes me think of what would happen if it was really going fast enough to get a blurry picture on a normal shutter speed. The one major thing that I had an issue with was with the picture where one person is really blurry and the rest are not. I’m not saying that is was a bad picture I’m just saying that its something that I really didn’t like. Over all your pictures are really good and I think they are all very interesting.

Good work Kaylee! My favorite pictures are the self-portrait photos. These are my favorite because I thought the you choose good background colors and I loved how you used natural framing. I also liked the facial expressions you captured. They made the pictures more interesting. All of your pictures were really crisp! Some of you pictures were a little plain and unexciting. Other than that great work Kaylee! Oh one more thing, your couple pictures were a little to mushy for my liking. They were like oatmeal with too much water. Add more oats, or put it in the microwave!

  7. The pictures taken of Alex and Katie were well shot. I like that you used different angles and views. I would like to see how you take pictures of other things… such as apples or animals. My favorites are probably the park pictures. Good job overall!

I really like your motion blur pictures. The last one could have a little more movement in it, but it looks great all together. I also like the first picture of them jumping because they have not been cut of at all and t is clear what you are taking a picture of. I also like the last picture of the baby swing. Every thing in the background is in focus and the swing is great.

  9. good detail in the photos. great lighting as well. face-book worthy, definitely, but your gonna have to set some backdrops or something. the photoshop one was actually good better then the other ones that just look stupid.

  10. I like the motion pictures of the baby swing. It looks like the baby was traveling super fast! I thought they might be a little bit better if the stand for the swing was clearer, but overall great pictures.

  11. I really like the eye picture. I like how the eye is really sharp. However I don’t really like the blurry pictures. I really don’t get the point of them. But I like all of the portraits of the people, it looks professional. But mostly I like the different angles on the pictures. Good job, and keep up the good work. (:

  12. I liked some of your photos. The portrait ones were very well done. The one where you switched faces with the stuffed animals was a little creepy but it was well done. The motion blur ones couldve been done better though. I dont think that the things that are blurred really make sense blurred. The pictures just kinda seem a little cheesy. But great job with the other pictures.
